What is Madhyahna During Ganesh Chaturthi?
In Hindu tradition, the time between sunrise and sunset is divided into five parts, and the middle part is called Madhyahna. This means “midday.” During Ganesh Chaturthi, devotees consider Madhyahna as the most sacred time. The reason is that it is believed that Lord Ganesha was born during this time of day.
This midday time is seen as the most holy time to bring Lord Ganesha home (Sthapana) and do the main puja. So, most families and temples start the rituals when the sun is right above.
At this time, devotees perform a special puja called Shodashopachara Ganapati Puja. They do so by offering flowers, incense and modaks. They even chant prayers with love and devotion.
This midday puja is the most important moment of the day during Ganesh Chaturthi. But the timings for Madhyahna vary from one state to the other. You must check the Madhyahna Ganesha Puja Muhurat based on where you live.

Moon Sighting Prohibition Explained
During Ganesh Chaturthi, it is said that we should not look at the moon, especially on the first day of the festival. This is because, according to old Hindu stories, seeing the moon on this day can bring Mithya Dosha or Mithya Kalank (a false blame or misunderstanding in your life.)
According to an old story from the Puranas, Lord Krishna was once wrongly blamed for stealing a precious gem called the Syamantaka jewel. He was confused and upset because he was innocent. Later, Sage Narada told him that this happened because he had seen the moon on Ganesh Chaturthi.
Narada explained that Lord Ganesha had once cursed the Moon God (Chandra Dev) for laughing at him. Because of this curse, anyone who sees the moon on that day would also be affected by false blame or dishonor.
So, even today, many people in India follow this simple rule. You must check the Mithya Dosha date time 2026 and avoid stepping outside or looking at the sky during that period.
